The Department of Special Collections is responsible for acquiring, storing, and making available the library’s cultural heritage materials, i.e., manuscripts, music materials, maps, pictures, old prints, and other printed collections that are particularly worthy of preservation. The Department’s remit also includes the library’s overall work with exhibits, events, visits, and displays.

The digitisation of collections in both internally and externally funded projects is a priority area for the library. We are seeking an applicant to take part in and strengthen our preservation function, with a special focus on a project in which Uppsala University Library is working in cooperation with the Swedish Litteraturbanken, i.e., Nya vägar till det förflutna [New pathways to the past].

Duties: You will be working mainly in preparing printed materials (from the 1800s) for image capture by repairing paper (tears).

In addition to this, the work may involve the preservation of materials from the library’s map and picture collections.

Requirements:

  • Trained as a conservator with an emphasis on paper preservation
  • Good ability to communicate in Swedish or English

Major emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. You are methodical and precise. You take responsibility, achieve results in your work, and work well with others.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 01-12-2021 or as otherwise agreed.
