Post-doc position in molecular evolution - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished molecular bioscience departments in Europe. The department comprises seven research programs with about 130 employees. Please read more at (http://www.icm.uu.se).

This position will be placed in Lisa Klasson’s research group at the Molecular evolution program.

Duties/Project description: The overall aim of our research is to study how symbiotic interactions between bacteria and animal hosts affect both partners’ genetic material and evolution. In this project, the focus we be on analyzing genomic data from the endosymbiotic bacterium Wolbachia and different species of Drosophila that carry it.   

Requirements: The candidate should have a PhD in bioinformatics, molecular biology or other relevant areas. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Previous experience of working with NGS data and bioinformatic analyses, familiarity with Linux and a scripting language such as Python, Perl or R is necessary. Previous experience of de novo genome assemblies and comparative genomics is highly desirable. The applicant must have a good ability to work independently as well as in a group. Excellent written and oral knowledge of English is required, as the work takes place in an international environment.
