Duties/Project description: Practicum teaching assistant conducting stakeholder interviews and case study research to simulate a nature-based destination conflict and resolution scenario. As part of the nature-based sustainable destination development course, there will be a policy simulation in which the class is divided into competing stakeholder groups with diverging interests in the use of a particular nature-based destination. The teaching assistant will research a particular nature-based tourism case study and gather sufficient information for the class to replicate the nature-based destination policy conflict in the course and attempt to solve the conflict. The exact topic may be either chosen by the teaching staff of the nature-based sustainable destination development course or together with the teaching assistant. The teaching assistant will hold informal interviews with key stakeholders and gather qualitative and quantitative information about the destination, the different stakeholder perspectives on what the key conflicts are, the different goals that the stakeholders want to achieve, and the key aspects of the legal and policy context that define the existing struggle. The teaching assistant will create and deliver a report to the nature-based sustainable destination development course teachers and assist in creating the policy simulation in the class. After the policy simulation has concluded, the teaching assistant will communicate the outcome of the exercise back to the key stakeholders who participated in the informal interviews.
