Uppsala University, Department of Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education and extensive collaborations we constitute an important driving force in the development of our academic field. In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competences are in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, computational modelling and simulations, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimizing the use of drugs in individuals to societal pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competences within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally.

Our scientific focus areas in selection:

  • Clinical Pharmacy
  • Drug Delivery
  • Molecular Pharmaceutics
  • Pharmaceutics and Nanotechnology
  • Pharmacodynamics
  • Pharmacoeconomics
  • Pharmacoepidemiology
  • Pharmacokinetics

Duties: The project will involve establishment of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) relationships based on preclinical and clinical data for new and available antibiotics. Pharmacometric models will be developed which aim to translate exposure-response relationships in animals to exposure-response in patients, as well as improved analyzes of clinical study data and simulations for optimized dosing. We expect that the project will lead to new advances of methods for characterizing pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in the field.

Requirements: Eligible to be employed as a researcher is a person who has completed a doctoral degree (PhD) in pharmacokinetics / pharmacodynamics / pharmacometrics or a related field or has a foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree in the specified field.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability and motivation to improve methods for antibiotic development and antibiotic use. The applicant must be able to express themselves well, both orally and in writing, in English.

Additional qualifications: Pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling and simulation of antibiotics. Experience of model-based translation from preclinic to clinic for antibiotics in drug development. Interest in, and skill in, scientific writing is highly desirable, as is experience of collaborating in international networks.

Application: The application should include:

  1. a motivation letter with a brief description of the candidate and research interests as well as experiences in relation to the requirements and qualifications listed above, and the topics pharmacometrics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and oncology
  2. the candidate’s CV
  3. copies of diplomas and certificates
  4. two recommendation letters (where one preferably would be from a supervisor of the Master thesis) and thesis, as well as other relevant documents that the applicant wish to refer to, such as proficiency in English
