Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström laboratory conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 250 employees and has a turnover just over 250 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering and master's programs.

Work duties:This position will be placed at the Division of Polymer Chemistry in Uppsala University and it is funded as a project to develop sample environment for the reflectometers at the European Spallation Source that is being built in Lund, Sweden.  The first and main activity will be to produce sample cells for study of solid/liquid interfaces for the ESTIA instrument.  These should incorporate best practice and include recent ideas from work at other facilities.  Further work will include development of a roadmap for the future advances.  The work will involve some travel for liaison with collaborators and to make tests of equipment.

Requirements:

  • A university degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering or practical scientific/technical discipline.
  • Knowledge about interfacing and integrating automated equipment such as laboratory pumps, valves, and translations with other equipment and control systems.
  • Experience with computer-aided design and knowledge of modern construction methods such as additive manufacturing.
  • Ability to learn new skills and apply them in a cross-disciplinary engineering project.
  • Good oral and written proficiency in English.

  • Good ability to work independently.
  • Good at communicating in English.

Other merits:

  • Knowledge of handling liquid samples for experimental work.
