Uppsala University, Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology, Faculty of Biology, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished biomolecular departments in Europe, comprising six research programs covering subjects such as bioinformatics, microbiology, and biophysics.

The Kasson Group in Molecular Biophysics Program, the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology seeks a postdoctoral researcher studying influenza virus entry mechanisms. We are an international and interdisciplinary team of committed researchers who come from different backgrounds to study virus delivery mechanisms using biophysical analysis. You will join an international, interdisciplinary team studying viral entry with backgrounds in physics, chemistry, computer science, and virology. The group provides an exciting, dynamic environment for science, and good communication skills and positive interactions with teammates are critical for success.

Duties
Responsibilities are full-time research and mentor-ship of junior researchers in the laboratory as agreed upon, with all research time on the research project and mentor-ship and other development responsibilities taking less than 20% time. Will also include international travel to collaborating scientific sites and meetings as needed. This position will involve molecular dynamics simulations of enveloped viral entry, statistical learning, and close involvement and comparison with experimental data acquired by our team.

Requirements
PhD and scientific background in biophysics or in a similar field, strong publication list compared to years of experience, successful demonstration of scientific knowledge, and ability to work with diverse teammates. Strong programming ability and computational training are required. Specifically, prior experience in molecular dynamics simulation of bio molecules, and statistical mechanics, machine learning, or both. Excellent communication skills in written and oral English are prerequisites. Applications will be assessed based on skills related to project requirements, previous productivity, strength of references, and interview performance.

Application
Your application should contain a copy of your PhD diploma, CV with list of publications, a covering letter, and contact information for at least two prior supervisors or other professors willing to serve as references.
