Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 85 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se.

The Department is looking for two student research assistants (amanuens) working 20% of a full-time position during the fall, starting 30 August 2021, for work within the project “The Institutional Roots of Electoral Violence” (project leader Kristine Höglund). 

Work assignments: The tasks consist of collecting data on electoral violence, political institutions and conflict management in Kenya and/or Zambia. Tasks may also entail miscellaneous writing or editing tasks. One of the assistants will help administer the organization of an international research workshop (to be held in Sweden). 

Qualification requirements: Only those who are admitted to education at the undergraduate or advanced level may be employed as a teaching assistant/amanuens (HF Chapter 5, Section 10).

The following is also required;

  • active studies in peace and conflict studies at Uppsala University
  • good knowledge of political violence and theories of peace and conflict
  • previous experience of similar data collection work
  • documented ability to work independently
  • very good English in speech and writing
  • good organizational skills
  • good analytical skills
  • good ability to collaborate


Desirable/meritorious in general:

  • Studies at advanced level in peace and conflict studies.

Individual suitability will be strongly considered.
