The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 85 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. The department and the project Unwilling or Unwanted? Explaining the decline of mediation in armed conflicts”, in short the "Mediation Decline project", with project leader Isak Svensson, is now looking to hire two fulltime research assistants, for the period 14 June 2021 up to 30 of June 2022.
Duties:
The most important task for the research assistants is to collect data on the presence of third-party mediation in armed conflicts, and civil society inclusion in negotiations. The research assistants will need to get involved in ongoing research and do smaller compilations of the state of knowledge, as well as do descriptive data analysis. The research assistants will also comment on texts produced during the project. Additional administrative tasks may be added.
Requirements:
For a deep understanding of conflict processes and violence dynamics, and to be able to work with advanced statistical methods, the position demands a master degree in peace and conflict studies, political science or international relations. Alternatively the applicant is currently finalising master studies within one of the subject areas (final semester).
