Research assistant, Department of Peace and Conflict Research - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was founded in 1971 with the purpose of conducting research and offering education within the field of peace and conflict studies. The department today is a young, dynamic, and international work place with approximately 80 employees and 300-400 students from all over the world. The department is now looking for a fulltime research assistant for 10 months (alternatively 80% over 12 months), starting 1 September 2021 (start date can be negotiated).

Tasks: The research assistant will work within the project “Ceasefires and the dynamics of violence in war zones” (project leader Dr. Corinne Bara). The primary tasks are: Exploratory data analysis and visualization, conducting smaller case studies, and writing literature reviews. Other tasks may include assisting with data collection and data management. The position may come with additional administrative and analytical tasks within the project. Qualifications: This position requires a deep understanding of conflict processes and violence dynamics, as well as statistical methods training on the advanced level. A Master’s degree in peace and conflict studies or political science, alternatively finilising master studies in peace and conflict studies or political science, is therefore needed.

This position also requires:

• Excellent data analysis, data visualization, and data management skills
• Very good knowledge of statistical software (R or Stata)
• Ability to work independently
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in English.

Additional merits:

• Documented knowledge of the research topics (ceasefires, violence dynamics)
• Experience in data collection / coding, in particular conflict-related data
• Experience of writing concise and informative literature reviews, with high demands on detailed documentation and allocation of sources
• Previous experience from similar (research) tasks.

Salary: Individually negotiated salary.
