Duties: As a research engineer at the Genome Engineering Zebrafish Facility, SciLifeLab you are responsible for adequate husbandry of the zebrafish and aquatic system function in the facility. This includes: feeding, maintenance of aquatic systems, control of water quality and health checks of zebrafish. Additionally, work tasks include optimization of routines, troubleshooting of aquatic and aquaculture systems, inventorying and ordering of critical aquatic system consumables and parts, and communication with aquatic system service providers. Work may include managing fish breeding and maintaining appropriate records. Work such as phenotypic studies and basic work with microscopes could be part of the duties. Duties can change over time. Occasionally some tasks can be physically demanding. Weekend work may be required. The candidate will be required to work closely with the facility users.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) education in biology and/or chemistry. We are looking for qualified and motivated candidates with an interest in animal health and welfare with previous experience of working with zebrafish or other aquatic model organisms and live feeds for aquaculture. Experience with pump maintenance and aquatic systems is required.
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and in a group are required. An ability of initiative and a structured approach as well as problem solving skills are important for this position. As a person, you will be expected to be efficient, accurate, and eager to develop the operation. We value a good sense of service. Particular emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. The position requires good English language skills.
Additional qualifications: Courses in Laboratory Animal Science, Fish and Swedish Legislation, Ethics and Animal Use and 3R or equivalent.
