Postdoctoral position specialising in the study of national minorities in terms of linguistics - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Hugo Valentin Centre (HVC) is an interdisciplinary unit at the Department of History, Uppsala University, with a focus on research and education in two particular fields: ethnic relations and Holocaust and genocide studies. The former involves studying ethnic relations in a broad sense, with an emphasis on minorities, migration, language and cultural revitalisation, integration, discrimination, and political and social conditions in a multicultural context. Research is conducted in a markedly cross-disciplinary environment that brings together researchers with a background in humanities and social sciences.

Duties: A postdoctoral fellow’s duties consist mainly of research and the task of applying for external research funding in the field concerned, but also some administration. The position requires continuous attendance at the Centre, active participation in seminars, on-going presentation of the fellow’s own research and, where necessary, some teaching, supervision of students and administration corresponding to up to 20% of the position. The position lasts two years.

Requirements: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in the humanities or social sciences. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc. [Description of any additional qualification requirements]

Additional qualifications: Administrative proficiency is important for the position and is demonstrated by, for example, an ability to plan, organise and prioritise work in a way that is efficient and fit for purpose. It is also shown by a capacity to define and adhere to time frames. Proficiency includes overall work planning, an ability to initiate and run networks and to organise conferences, and skill in managing resources in a manner that benefits activities. Applicants are required to be proficient in English, with skill in expressing themselves in speech and writing.

Assessment: The application will be assessed by the scientific quality of the project proposal, and the applicant's qualifications.

Application procedure: A complete application must contain the following items: 

• A curriculum vitae and attested copies of certificates and other documents referred to in the application.
• A list of up to a maximum of five academic works (including the dissertation either in published or manuscript form) cited in the application. The publications should be uploaded as pdfs and rank-ordered according to their relevance for the application.
• An up to five pages long project proposal must be enclosed with the application. It should contain a clear aim description, an account of how the project contributes to the international state of the art in the field; a discussion regarding method; and a schedule for project implementation. How the planned project is connected with current research at the Centre and/or how the applicant intends to present the results, should also be clearly stated.

In the event of divergent interpretations of the English and Swedish versions of this announcement, the Swedish version takes precedence.

Salary: Individual salary.
 
Starting date: 01-09-2021 or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position 2 years, according to central collective agreement.
