Research assistant, Department of Peace and Conflict Research - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was founded in 1971 with the purpose of conducting research and offering education in the field of peace and conflict studies. The institution is today a young, dynamic and international workplace with about 70 employees and approximately 300-400 students from all over the world. The department and two of our research projects, are now looking for a research assistant for a 12 months employment, starting in June 2021.

The research assistant will work within the following projects; “Electoral Violence: A threat to Democratic Transition and Consolidation” (project leader Hanne Fjelde) and “Protest, Democratisation, and Escalation to Large-scale Political Violence” (project leader Espen Geelmuyden Rød).

Tasks:

• Data collection and coding.
• Data management, including; data compilation, visualization, and analysis of quantitative data (including survey data).
• The position may also include some writing of academic texts, as well as some administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

• BA degree in Peace and Conflict studies, Political Science or related subject.
• Good knowledge of statistical software program (such as R or STATA).
• Good knowledge of English.
• Good collaboration skills and ability to work independently.

Other/merit:

• MA degree (or equivalent), or ongoing master studies in Peace and Conflict,  Political Science or related subject.
• Data collection experience.
• Training in quantitative methods.
• Methods training in and/or experience working with spatially referenced data.
