Description: The Hugo Valentin Centre (HVC) is an interdisciplinary unit at the Department of History, Uppsala University, focusing mainly on research. The research is conducted in two priority areas: first, cultural, social and political phenomena and processes of change related to the ethnic dimension of human life and, second, Holocaust and genocide studies. Research is carried out in a markedly interdisciplinary environment that brings together researchers with a background in the humanities and social sciences. This call concerns a position in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

Duties: The position involves teaching, examination and supervision of students on the master level, research, to apply for external research grants and some administration. The teaching language is English.

Requirements: To be eligible for employment as Senior Lecturer, the applicant needs to have obtained a doctorate in a relevant field or to possess equivalent academic skill, completed at least ten weeks’ teacher training relevant to the work at tertiary (higher) education level, or acquired corresponding knowledge, and have teaching skills in the field of Holocaust and Genocide Studies.For the applicant’s teaching proficiency to be recognised, the pedagogical skills should be well documented so that also the teaching quality can be assessed. The applicant should be capable of teaching in classrooms as well as via Zoom and be prepared for changes between the two settings with short notice. Experience of interdisciplinary research and education is a merit and competences within the field of social science will be considered particularly meritorious. The applicant should also have the personal qualities necessary to fulfil the work assignment well and the ability to cooperate with colleagues and students will be given much weight. Documented ability to teach in English is also required.

Other proficiency: When selecting among qualified applicants, equal weight will be placed on the assessment of pedagogical and academic skills. When assessing the pedagogical skills, experience of planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching as well as supervision and examination of students will be taken into account.

Scientific skill refers to research merit. When assessing scientific skill, scientific quality must first and foremost be taken into account.

All qualifications must be documented so that both quality and quantity can be assessed.

  • A list of the five academic works referred to, which should be enclosed with the application.
  • A list of references.

In the event of divergent interpretations of the English and Swedish versions of this announcement, the Swedish version takes precedence.

Salary: Individually negotiated salary.

Starting date: 01-08-2021 or as otherwise agreed
