The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 125 of whom are doctoral students. It offers a broad physics curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students, participation in nationally and internationally leading projects for researchers, and opportunities for partnership with industry and various outreach activities.

Uppsala University hereby invites applications for a researcher position in accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The candidate is expected to equal extend conduct basic and applied AMS research with the existing infrastructure and the isotopes 10Be, 14C, 36Cl and 129I as well as-coordinate commission work with 14C at the tandem laboratory national research infrastructure at Uppsala University. The experimental base for the planned employment is formed by amongst others a 5 MV Pelletron tandem accelerator with dedicated ion sources, beam lines and detector systems, a MICADAS tandem accelerator for 14C analysis and sample preparation clean-room laboratories with several AGE III systems and three IRMS for stable isotope analysis. Within the frame of the commission work the applicants is anticipated to initiate collaboration with universities, industry and other sectors of the society. Supervision of undergraduate and PhD-student projects can be part of the working duties.

Prerequisites:  The holder of a position as researcher must have a PhD degree or equivalent.   Well-documented research experience using accelerator mass spectrometry particularly with 14C and applications in archaeology, geology and medicine and good fundamental understanding of electrostatic accelerator systems as well as sample pretreatment chemistry is required. Experiences in managing commission work with external users as well as experiences of leadership are considered to be of advantages.
