The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) at Uppsala University is the world's leading provider of data on organized violence, and the program is a unique source of information about conflicts worldwide and has been at the Department since the 1980s.

The Department and UCDP is now looking for a teaching assistant for a part time position (20 %), starting 1 March 2021 and until 4 June 2021. 

Duties:
The tasks consist of collecting and coding information on organized violence from selected sources into the UCDP database, with a special focus on the Bosnian War 1992-1995 and other conflicts in the Balkans in the same period. Instruction of other UCDP staff in coding of the Bosnian war as well as text writing will also be included in the tasks.

Requirements:
As an applicant, you are an active student in the peace and conflict programme at Uppsala University. The position also requires;  

  • Good knowledge of political violence and theories of peace and conflict
  • Very good knowledge of UCDP and its definitions
  • Very good knowledge of Bosnia in particular, and the Balkans in general
  • Previous experience of similar data collection work in the field of conflict.
  • Documented ability to work independently
  • Very good English in speech and writing
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good ability to collaborate

Additional qualifications:
Active studies at advanced level in peace and conflict studies.
Individual suitability will be strongly considered.
