Uppsala University, Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology has a leading position in research and education. The Department currently has about 300 employees, including 120 teachers and 110 PhD students. More than 4000 students study one or more courses at the department each year. More info: http://www.it.uu.se.

Duties/Project description: The research work will be mainly centered in design and implementation of Ultra-Sensitive printed RF systems for Fat-Intra body communication and Sensing. To reach the general research purpose, the research tasks include developing printable bio-compatible materials, i.e., semiconductors for sensing and conductors for metallic wirings and antenna, and developing process for controllable patterning based on inkjet printing, screen printing and a combination of printing techniques and lithography-based processes. Characterizations of materials and electronic components can be implemented during the development phase of communication interfaces for biomedical sensors. Developing integrated solution using novel materials, including possible implementation of next-generation embedded spintronic sensors into biomedical applications.

Certain participation in teaching and supervision of students (including doctoral) may be included in the duties.

Requirements: PhD with doctoral degree in physics, engineering physics, or electronics, as well as documented multi-year experience in research in printed/organic electronics or printed solutions for sensing. We require good knowledge of different synthesis and developmental processes in printed structures, electronics and systems. For Instrumental and hardware control we require experience with, e.g., Dimatix Inkjet printer ,3D printers(of any choice), Screen printing, Kruss Drop Shape Analyzer – DSA100  (contact angle measurement- surface chemistry of printable patterns), IR synchronized thermography for uniformity measurement, Optical profilometer for analyzing surface properties and defects, XPS -Nexsa XPS System and SEM for analysing material properties and composition of customised inks. Laser scanner (Mitutoyo LSM501H) and micro-epsilon optoNCDT1700-50 (Laser Displacement Sensor)for monitoring implantable actuators.

We require good oral and written proficiency in English.

Additional qualifications: Experience of CAD tools is appreciated, as well as experience in some of the following: AWR Microwave Office (and related products), Ansoft HFSS, ADS Agilent, Sonnet Lite, Antenna Magus, AppCad, OrCAD, Real Time Design Tool, Eagle PCB Design, CADENCE Virtuoso, Synopsys, and Smith Tool. Experience with conducting polymers and synthesis, printable semiconducting polymers, transparent conducting electrodes for biosensors and printed devices (ITO based biosensors), actuators and ionic gels that can be printed) will be advantageous.

Experience in teaching and supervising students in related areas, writing of proposal applications, peer reviewing, experience in coordinating academic events is appreciated.

Personal qualities such as a strong motivation for quality improvement and performance and the ability to lead and run research projects while interacting with other researchers and students are very important. Applicants must be purposeful, structured and able to work effectively both individually and in groups.

Instructions for application: The application should contain a description of previous research experience, CV, publication list, copies of diplomas and other relevant documents. We would like you to provide reference information or attach a letter of recommendation.

Starting date: As soon as possible or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position for 2 years.

Scope of employment: 100 %
