Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - BMC

A position as a postdoctoral researcher in Biochemistry is available in the group of Prof. Ylva Ivarsson (https://ivarssonlab.com/) in the programme of Biochemistry, Department of Chemistry-BMC. You can find more information about us here (https://www.kemi.uu.se/research/biochemistry/).

Project description: The research in the Ivarsson lab aims to elucidate protein-protein interactions of relevance for cell signaling and function. Our main focus is on interactions between short linear motifs (3-12 amino acids, found in the intrinsically disordered regions of proteins) and motif-binding proteins. In this project we will obtain novel insight into motif-based SARS-CoV-2 host factor interactions using proteomic peptide phage display (ProP-PD) and characterization interactions by biophysical and structural approaches. The project is in collaboration with Gerald McInerney (KI), Matthias Mann (UCPH) and Jakob Nilsson (UCPH).

Duties: You will conduct research at full time, and potentially help supervising younger students. The position will include expression and purification of recombinant proteins, phage display, affinity measurements, and crystallization. The position may also include cell based experiments. You may also be involved in some bioinformatic analysis. The position will include summarizing results and presenting them through oral and written presentations, including manuscript writing.

Qualifications required: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology or related fields. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

You should have a strong background in protein biochemistry. We also attach great importance to personal qualities such as such as the capacity to work independently as well as a part of a bigger group. Candidates must be able to express themselves very well in spoken as well as written English.

Qualifications desired: You should have experience of expressing and purifying protein, and conducting affinity measurements. It is also qualifying to have experience of cell based experiments.

The project is focused on motif-based protein-protein interaction studies and how Sars-Cov-2 hijack them.  It is therefore desired that you have a general interest in cell signaling and the protein-protein interactions that regulate cell signaling. An interest in bioinformatics and network analysis of biological data is of added value.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 2021-04-01, or as agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position for 24 months, according to central collective agreement.

Scope of employment: 100%.
