Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. The department hosts a dynamic research milieu and is internationally oriented. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and some 300-400 students from around the world are enrolled every academic year. The department and the project Electoral Violence: a threat to democratic transition and consolidation, is now looking for a researcher for a part time position, starting in January 2021.

Work description
The position will be based at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University. The researcher will conduct research on electoral violence, with a particular focus on India. The position is funded by the research project “Electoral Violence: a threat to democratic transition and consolidation” (led by Hanne Fjelde). The project examines the legacies of electoral violence for political development.

The researcher will conduct quantitative analysis on India and will, together with other team members, analyze  consequences of  electoral violence, and disseminate results through conference participation and publications. The work is largely independent but also consists of co-authoring academic articles. The position might include teaching up to 20% at the Department.

Qualifications
A doctoral degree in peace and conflict research. Advanced knowledge of quantitative methods and causal inference. Fluency in English (writing and speaking). Good cooperative skills, and ability to work both independently and in a team.

Meritorious
Experience with survey data analysis and experimental designs.
