The Department of Linguistics and Philology is involved in research and education in a number of languages and language-related subjects and provides an international work environment. The department´s activities cover many of the classical and modern languages and cultures in large areas of Europa, Asia and Africa, as well as computational and general linguistics. Education is offered at the Bachelor, Master and PhD levels.

Duties: The duties of the position include teaching Akkadian and Sumerian, Near Eastern history and cultural history, examination, research, and administration. Teaching duties comprise teaching at the undergraduate level, course responsibility, course administration, supervisory duties for Bachelor's level degree projects and examination.

Qualifications required: An applicant is eligible according to the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance to be employed as Senior Lecturer if he or she has completed a doctorate at the time of employment, or possesses equivalent academic qualifications, has completed relevant tertiary level teacher training comprising at least ten weeks, or in some other way has acquired equivalent proficiency, and has demonstrated expertise in teaching.

Documented research competence within the subject of Assyriology or associated fields is a prerequisite for this employment.

The applicant must be prepared for teaching in a classroom as well as through Zoom, and be prepared for switches between the two forms on short notice. The applicant must also possess the personal capabilities required to carry out the duties of the position well, which means that a sound capacity for cooperation with colleagues as well as students carries great weight.

Assessment criteria: When assessing eligible applicants, equal care will be devoted to reviewing teaching and research expertise. Assessment of teaching expertise takes into account planning, execution and evaluation of teaching, supervisory duties, and examination. The application must contain a description of the scope of the applicant’s teaching experience, expressed in teaching hours and hours of supervision.

Teaching expertise must be documented in a way that allows assessment of qualitative aspects.

The successful candidate is expected to be able to teach in Swedish or English.

Research expertise denotes research merits. Assessment of research expertise primarily considers scientific quality. Successful applications for external funding for research in Assyriology, Near Eastern Archaeology or Near Eastern history/cultural history will be considered a merit.

All merits must be documented so that both qualitative and quantitative aspects may be assessed.

Experience of collaboration with the community at large will be considered a merit.

Assessment criteria, other expertise: Administrative expertise will be given weight.

Administrative expertise is shown through the ability to plan, organise and prioritise the work efficiently and appropriately, and also through the ability to specify and adhere to time limits.

Personal circumstances (such as parental leave) pertinent and beneficial to the evaluation of the applicants’ qualifications should be included in the description of their merits.
