A 2-year position is available at the earliest from January 1, 2021 devoted to supporting in project management and in neuroethics research.

This position is part of the European Human Brain Project. The HBP aims to put in place a cutting-edge, ICT-based scientific research infrastructure for brain research, cognitive neuroscience and brain-inspired computing. From its inception the HBP has identified, reflected upon and addressed the various ethical, social, philosophical, and regulatory issues raised by its research. In particular, the Responsible Research and Innovation Workpackage is charged with integrating and implementing the Responsible Research and Innovation Framework in the HBP and its resulting research infrastructure, EBRAINS.

The advertised position will be based at the Center for Research Ethics and Bioethics Uppsala University in Sweden, where the HBP Philosophy and Neuroethics team carry out research in neuroethics. The position will be under the supervision of Arleen Salles (deputy leader of the HBP RRI workpackage and task leader).

Duties:

Administration and management:

  • Keeping an updated to-do list for administrative and research tasks with input and help from the WP deputy leader.
  • Tracking timelines and deadlines for activities.
  • Actively participating in HBPs workpackage meetings.
  • Liaison with WP communications team.
  • Preparing and reporting, and providing support to the WP deputy leader on reporting.
  • Coordinating of required data collection on progress indicators in PLUS (publications, activities, meetings, etc.)  and other relevant HBP management and reporting tools.

 Academic:

  • Supporting research in Neuroethics, namely.
  • Assisting reflection on the ethical, social, philosophical, and cultural issues that drive and arise from brain research and from the design and implementation of the HBP’s research and knowledge infrastructure EBRAINS.
  • Supporting the WP deputy leader in her role as Ethics Rapporteur, including assisting in preparation of relevant documents.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in the humanities, the social sciences, or neuroscience.
  • Documented knowledge and interest in ethics.
  • Documented experience in project management.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Additional qualifications:

Knowledge/experience of research and communication in the Human Brain Project is an important additional qualification.
