Industrial Engineering and Management is a broad, interdisciplinary subject that spans several sub-areas ranging from organization and management, innovation and entrepreneurship as well as industrial and social marketing within technology and innovation-intensive activities to automation and optimization, to machine design, production and production systems. In this subject area, the role is focused on medical technology Innovation and Implementation.

The Swedish medical technology industry is a world leader in many areas and employs around 20,000 people with a turnover of around SEK 60 billion per year. A basic prerequisite for these historic successes has been good collaboration between health care, business and academia. In order to gather previously spread activities into a strengthened profile area, Uppsala University has, together with the University Hospital and Region Uppsala, decided on a long-term and cross-faculty investment in medical technology, Medtech Science & Innovation, where basic scientific issues in medical technology are linked to healthcare needs.

The position is also linked to and located at Medtech Science & Innovation. The center has world-class laboratory facilities at its disposal at the Ångström Laboratory, as well as office and meeting rooms in newly renovated premises at the University Hospital. The center is also a national node in the strategic program Medtech4Health, which is financed by Sweden's innovation authority Vinnova.

Description of subject area of the employment: In order for health care and municipal health and social care to remain effective and of a high quality, and to be able to meet the demographic development and the needs of the inhabitants in a better way, a change is required in the entire care chain. A more accessible, closer care, together with new ways of working in care, can mean that the resources in care and nursing are better utilized and thus are sufficient for more people.

As part of this transition, new medical technology solutions will play a major role, including through the multi-professional teams with specialist competence for mobile advanced healthcare conducted outside hospitals that are beginning to be established in several regions, but also by providing patients and relatives with help with e.g. sampling, monitoring, communication and rehabilitation.

The subject area for the employment is medical technology innovation and implementation to enable and carry out advanced Healthcare.
