The ERC-funded group of Associate Professor Sebastian Deindl at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Uppsala, Sweden, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to develop and apply cutting-edge single-molecule fluorescence imaging approaches (e.g., Marklund et al., Nature 2020; Sabantsev et al., Nature Communications 2019) for the study of dynamic chromatin transactions at the single-nucleosome level.

We offer a stimulating multidisciplinary environment where you will work closely with experts in biophysics, biochemistry, structural and molecular biology. Our overall mission is to investigate the molecular mechanisms of protein machines in the regulation of gene expression using a highly multidisciplinary approach that combines advanced single-molecule fluorescence imaging with a range of biophysical, structural, and biochemical techniques. Project description: As a postdoctoral researcher on this project, you will be investigating the mechanisms of chromatin-associated processes using single-molecule imaging approaches along with complementary biophysical and biochemical techniques. The focus is on developing novel single-molecule fluorescence imaging and microfluidics approaches to comprehensively investigate the impact of local chromatin context on the dynamics and mechanisms of nucleosome transactions in the regulation of gene expression.

Requirements: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctoral researcher you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in experimental physics/biophysics, bioengineering, or in another related area which the employer considers as equivalent. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

We are looking for a candidate with a documented background in experimental biophysics. Excellent knowledge of English is a prerequisite as the position is located in an international environment. Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills and attributes, such as good co-operative skills, and a creative and self-motivated personality.

Additional qualifications: Experience in microfluidics and/or next-generation sequencing approaches would be advantageous.
