The Department of English contains five areas of specialisation in both teaching and research: English Linguistics (founded in 1904), English Literature (1948), American Literature (1968), Irish language and Culture (1950) and SINAS, the Swedish Institute for North American Studies (2003). Research at the department is conducted within all these areas. The doctoral program in English is divided into three sections, one specializing in English Linguistics, one specializing in English Literature, and one specializing in American Literature. The department as around 1500 students per year and offers approximately 60 different courses. We are hiring a lecture in World Literature for a temporary employment for two years.
Duties: Teaching and examination of a range of undergraduate and MA courses in English and/or American Literature and Culture, as well as supervision of undergraduate theses. Other duties include the teaching of academic writing. Teaching duties comprise course coordination, administration and development. Other undergraduate teaching, as well further administrative duties, may be included. The position includes a research allocation.
Eligibility: Applicants are eligible for employment as Lecturer if they hold a doctoral degree in English or American literature and have completed training in tertiary-level education, or acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways. Teaching and research qualifications must be in the field of contemporary World Literature. The ability to teach in English is a requirement. A good ability to cooperate with others is a requirement.
Assessment criteria: In the ranking of eligible applicants, equal weight will be accorded to research and teaching competence. The ability to initiate and conduct original research that may contribute to the ongoing research at the department will be given special weight. Teaching excellence and documented experience in the planning, execution and evaluation of teaching at undergraduate and Master’s levels, as well as supervision and examination of degree papers, will be considered an advantage. Teaching quality is assessed and, as such, teaching ability should be well documented. A good ability to ability to cooperate with others is of particular importance.
