The position is in the department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished molecular bioscience departments in Europe. The department comprises seven research programs with about 130 employees. Please read more at (http://www.icm.uu.se).
Project description: A new method for protein structure determination is under development in Uppsala. At the heart of it is the very bright very short pulses that are provided by X-ray free-electron lasers. The short pulse length allows for diffraction to be collected from a sample before the time it takes for the radiation damage from the same pulse to degrade, or completely destroy, the sample. In the Ekeberg lab our goal is to develop and improve the software and data-analysis algorithms that are required for this new type of imaging. Of particular importance is how these methods could allow us to study protein dynamics at very short time scales.
Work duties: The researcher will develop data analysis-algorithms and test these using both simulated and experimental data. The work can therefore include both diffraction simulation and participation in data-collection experiments at free-electron laser facilities around the world. The researcher will have their own projects but work in tight collaboration with the other members of the group. Other duties within the department may occur, (such as teaching and/or administrative work), but not more than a maximum of 20% of the service.
Requirements: We are looking for a motivated research candidate with a PhD in physics, computer science, electron microscopy, data analysis or similar. Experience from data analysis and programming is also a requirement. The researcher will be part of a team and should be constructive and reliable in collaborations. Last, an excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is a requirement
Additional qualifications: Previous experience of one or more of the following:
The application: Your application must include:

2) CV (maximum 2 pages)
3) A copy of your doctoral degree and your course grades
4) Names and contact details (address, e-mail address and telephone number) of at least two reference persons
5) List of relevant publications
Your application can be written in English.
