The Ångström Laboratory cleanroom (Myfab-Uppsala) is part of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, but is open for all researchers at the Ångström Laboratory and also for external users. The Myfab-Uppsala staff is responsible for operation, maintenance, user support and commissioned services of the common instruments for advanced micro- / nanostructuring and materials analysis. Myfab-Uppsala is part of the national research infrastructure Myfab that also include similar facilities at KTH, Chalmers and Lund University.

At the Ångström Laboratory extensive and advanced materials science research is conducted by several research groups and departments. This position is placed at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, but the work will also include collaborations with researchers from other departments, such as the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Chemistry – Ångström. In order to reinforce the development of TEM analysis (transmission electron microscopy) we are now opening a new position for qualified TEM analysis. This position should primarily serve the purpose of supporting the scientists from various research areas, such as solar cells, flexible electronics, thin film technology, biomaterials, etc.

Work duties: To conduct TEM analysis as a service to and in collaboration with various research groups. Both sample preparation and TEM analysis are included in the task, and also training of new users and some maintenance of the equipment. Use of other analysis techniques, such as SEM (scanning electron microscopy), may be required. The work includes to discuss methods and results with researchers and to compile written reports and documentation. The work is primarily conducted in a cleanroom environment.

Requirements: PhD or work experience that the employer considers an equivalent qualification. Solid knowledge and practical experience in materials analysis with high-resolution TEM and STEM, and of sample preparation using FIB (focused ion beam). Knowledge and practical experience of additional sample preparation techniques, electron diffraction, and work with inorganic materials such as metals, ceramics and thin films, are strong merits.

As this position to a large extent is service oriented it is important that you can take the responsibility for and manage scientific subprojects. You also have to be comfortable with this supporting role and not only being driven by your own professional scientific progress.
