Uppsala University, Department of Physics and Astronomy

The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 125 of whom are doctoral students. It offers a broad physics curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students, participation in nationally and internationally leading projects for researchers, and opportunities for partnership with industry and various outreach activities.

The high energy physics division at Uppsala University has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the area of experimental neutrino physics with the Hyper-Kamiokande experiment. The successful candidate will work within the larger astroparticle physics group, which also has active involvement in other experiments including the IceCube Neutrino Observatory.

Duties/Project description: The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role within the Hyper-Kamiokande collaboration. Research focused on areas of software development, low energy neutrinos from Galactic supernovae, and/or the diffuse supernova neutrino background will be given priority. Synergies between Hyper-Kamiokande and IceCube activities would also be considered an asset.

Requirements: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in neutrino physics or a closely related field. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Additional qualifications: Experience in software programming including proficiency in C++ and Python, data analysis, neutrino astrophysics and/or neutrino detection will be considered assets. Candidates should be able to work independently, as well as integrate into the framework of a large collaboration.
