The Department of Medical Sciences is a clinical department with about 250 employees and over 300 persons associated with the University hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in several areas. The research is conducted in close connection with the clinical practice at the University hospital and comprises studies on disease mechanisms, development and evaluation of improved diagnostic techniques, as well as new treatments. The research engineer position is located at the Array and Analysis Facility.

The Array and Analysis Facility is a regional core facility of national interest. We provide microarray-based analyses of RNA and DNA for researchers primarily from Uppsala University, but also from other universities. We also provide bioinformatics analyses of array data and other types of data.

Tasks: We are looking for a person who wants to work in a multidisciplinary team in order to provide the highest level of service to our customers. Your tasks include meetings with customers for planning of analyses, QC of samples, performing array-based analyses and instrument care. Your will be working with computerized systems such as Thermofisher Gene Chip System and Gene Titan MC for large scale analyses of thousands of samples per year. Your tasks also include quality control using software, as well as administrative tasks such as documentation of work, purchasing of reagents, preparation of invoices and quality assurance work. The work requires attention to detail, a good ability to handle deadlines and excellence in communicating with colleagues and customers. You will be working in close collaboration with other research engineers and bioinformaticians.

Requirements:

  • University education in the life science area for example laboratory technician, Master of Science in biomedicine or similar.

  • Experience of large-scale laboratory work and experience of using computerized lab equipment.

  • Good command of oral and written English

  • The applicant must be service minded, have good collaborative skills and be able to work independently.

  • Experience of work in molecular biology.

Other merits:

  • Experience of disseminating information, giving courses and workshops.

  • Experience in providing service to external customers.

  • Good command of oral and written Swedish

  • Experience of working with microarray analysis methods from ThermoFisher (ie SNPs and Expression).
