Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för kemi - BMC

The Department of Chemistry – BMC is located at the Uppsala Biomedical Centre campus. It belongs to the Faculty of Science and Technology and conducts research in biochemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry. The department benefits from close contacts with other disciplines nearby and interacts with biomedicine, pharmacy, physics and materials science. Scientists with expertise in biophysical methods of interaction analysis are responsible for a facility belonging to SciLifeLab, part of a national infrastructure for research in life science. The creative and research-intense environment contributes to a broad knowledge-base as well as cutting-edge expertise. In addition, Uppsala University has a highly developed innovation office that gives support for commercialization and external collaboration. Click here to read more about us.

Uppsala University offers one of the country’s best educations in chemistry, with strong links to world- leading research. A wide range of courses, excellent research connections, and extensive lab work characterizes the teaching. Click here to read more about our education.

Research conducted within the group focuses on analytical developments for mass spectrometric analysis of lipids and metabolites directly of biological surfaces, such as thin tissue sections, and cells. The main techniques used are nanospray desorption electrospray ionisation, nano-DESI, and surface sampling capillary electrophoresis which enables localised liquid extraction at highly defined positions coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry.

We are looking for a researcher, temporary position for 2 years.

Duties: The successful candidate will contribute to development and automation of custom techniques for localised liquid extraction interfaced to mass spectrometry with electrospray. Further, the researcher is expected to acquire and analyse data on small biomolecules, such as metabolites, from tissue and cells. Collaboration and supervision of students will be part of the duties.

Qualifications required: To be eligible to apply you must have a PhD degree within a relevant area for the position, preferably in an area related to analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry. We put great emphasis on personal qualifications and the ability to communicate, cooperate, and work with project students. We work in an international environment and the ability to communicate in English is highly important.

Qualifications desired: Postdoctoral experience related to small molecule direct mass spectrometric analysis and data handling is meriting. Experience of capillary electrophoresis coupled to mass spectrometry and single cell analysis is meriting.

The application: The application should be written in English and must include the following documents: (1) a letter describing the applicant and their interest in the field of the position and (2) a Curriculum Vitae including a list of scientific publications. The applications should be submitted digitally using the link below the add.
