The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished biomolecular departments in Europe, comprising six research programs covering subjects such as bioinformatics, microbiology, and biophysics.
The position is available in Kenta Okamotos research group who studies viruses that threaten our environment and health by exploring their acquired functional structures in evolution. Due to current needs for studying coronaviruses and COVID-19, we have kicked off the project of producing a bio-safe antigen, virus-like particle (VLP) of COVID-19 and chimeric bat coronaviruses. This new project and the VLP is for establishing an IgM-based early serological diagnosis of COVID-19 in one hand, for studying binding/infection mechanisms of bat coronaviruses in the other hand, which will lead to finding how they have acquired capabilities to infect human cells.
Duties: The employee will be a part of the ongoing research project in KAW SciLifeLab COVID-19 action plan. As a researcher within this project you will do experiments using cellular and molecular approaches, including fluorescent microscopy and flow cytometer. Other duties with in the department may occur, (such as teaching and/or administrative work), but not more than a maximum of 20% of the service.
Requirements: A PhD in natural/life sciences. You need to have an academic background in cell and molecular biology, or basic medical/pharmaceutical sciences, however, other academic background with appropriate experiences will also be considered as equivalent. The candidate should be able to work well as part of a team but also independently, and be proficient in both written and spoken English.
