Research assistant, Department of Peace and Conflict Research - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. For the department and for the projects "Nordic experiences of mediation: exploring the role of mandates in mediation processes” och "Mediation in nonviolent uprisings", we are now looking for a research assistant to work during the period 14 September 2020 to 12 mars 2021 (with a possibility of an extension).

Work tasks: The most important task of the research assistant in these projects, is to collect data on the presence of third-party mediation in non-violent protests, and to assist in the writing of a book manuscript on Nordic mediation in armed conflicts. The research assistant will need to get involved in ongoing research and do smaller compilations of the state of knowledge, as well as do descriptive data analysis. The research assistant will also comment on texts produced during the project.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in peace and conflict studies (or equivalent)
• Excellent speaking and writing skills in English
• Skills in Excel, STATA or R (or equivalent)
• Administrative experience.

Desirably / meritorious:

• Master's degree in peace and conflict studies (or equivalent)
• Previous experiences as a research assistant and/or of data collection
• Since some texts in the project will be written in Swedish, knowledge of written Swedish is a merit
• Emphasis will also be placed on personal suitability.
  
  

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 14 September 2020, or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position ending 12 mars 2021 (6 months), with possible extension.
