Uppsala University’s Department of Game Design is located at Campus Gotland, which has the best of two worlds: the broad range and high status of the full-scale University’s education and research and the unique study environment at a small-scale campus. Here, education in the areas of game development and game design is provided, and research focusing on basic issues in game design is under way.

The Department offers education in the principal area of game design, with four Bachelor (BA) degree programmes (Game Design, Game Design and Graphics, Game Design and Programming, and Game Design and Project Management) and a Master (MA) degree programme in Game Design. The Department also offers freestanding courses in game design, graphics and game programming.

The Games & Society Lab is a three-year project, supported by strategic funding from the Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University. Its purpose is, in the long term, to strengthen the research work and research ties of education at the Department of Game Design. The head of the Games & Society Lab is also a research leader at the Department. 

Duties

The assistant will provide administrative support to the project head in the latter’s work of developing activities in the Games & Society Lab. This includes work both to arrange various research events and identify and to contact international experts in order to establish an international advisory committee. Duties will also include providing support for the project head in the task of drawing up an overview of national and international research in game design.

Qualification requirements

The appointment requires at least 120 Higher Education (HE) credits in game design from a Bachelor’s study programme with game design as the main area of study.

Desirable and/or qualifying

Further studies in game design at Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level are qualifying, as is a demonstrable interest in research, communication and student issues. Excellent oral and written communication in English as well as Swedish, and also an ability to work in an independent, target-oriented way that brings about practical results, are highly desirable.
