The Department of Information Technology is opening a PhD student position for highly motivated individuals interested in conducting outstanding research in the area of backscatter communication. You will join one of the leading research groups with publications at the most prestigious conferences in the area.

Duties/Project description: The overall contribution of this project is to enable battery-free wireless sensor nodes based on backscatter communication. The application area is in the medical field and therefore reliability and security of backscatter networks are highly important. Among the expected achievements are prototype implementations to demonstrate and evaluate the research results.

The position is for at most five years, and includes department duties (mainly teaching) at a level of at most 20%, as well as course participation. The candidate will be expected to teach in English or Swedish.

Requirements: The candidate must have a Master of Science in computer science or electrical engineering, or equivalent. The ideal candidate for the position has a solid background in wireless communication and distributed systems.

As for all PhD students, a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject matter and as well as analytical and communication skills, both oral and written, are required.

Additional qualifications: Experience with hardware/radio-frequency design, low-level programming of energy constrained devices is helpful. The same is applicable for programming of FPGAs and knowledge in security.

Salary: According to local agreement for PhD students.
