Course assistant 50% at the Department of Earth Sciences, LUVAL

The Department of Earth Sciences of Uppsala University is Sweden's largest and broadest institution of its kind with about 200 employees. Our research extends from the earth's core to the atmosphere, on scales from sub-microscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and oceans, from the formation of the Earth until today. We investigate the development of life and the Earth over billions of years, and study the connections between the atmosphere and oceans with regards to climate change and sustainable development.

The research programme LUVAL brings together research and education in hydrology, meteorology, environmental analysis and physical geography.

Work duties: As a course assistant you will do an inventory and maintenance of field and other technical equipment used in teaching on the LUVAL programme. The work includes mapping and documentation of use of equipment within courses, identification of need for maintenance or acquisition of new equipment. The also includes researching background information for new applications of the equipment in the education, for example the development of the use of drones in teaching. It can also be included to assist teachers with preparation and use of the equipment during courses.

Qualifications: Current experience in geoscientific university education. Good computer experience, technical skills, and good language skills in English in speech and writing.

Desirable/additional qualifications: Ongoing or recently completed studies in geosciences or related fields. Personal characteristics are important, such as good ability to listen and collaborate, to meet and give room for people from different backgrounds and perspectives. You also need the ability to take the initiative and to be able to solve problems in a constructive way for the business, as well as being able to operate and complete independently tasks within given time frames, even during temporary work peaks.

Type of employment: Temporary position until 2021-01-31 (5 months).
