Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 230 employees and has a turnover just over 220 million SEK. At the department's seven programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs. More information is available on our website.

Subject description: Within the Inorganic Chemistry research program, research is currently carried out regarding electrochemical characterisations of different corrosion resistant coatings intended for use in PEM fuel cells. The latter coatings are composed of high entropy alloys, which constitute a relatively new type of alloy typically containing five different metals present in about equal concentrations. Our research is aimed at the evaluation of the corrosion resistances of different high entropy alloys using a range of electrochemical methods and electrolytes as a means of obtaining information that can be used to optimise the compositions of these alloys.

Work duties:
The work will include:

  • Electrochemical characterisation of the corrosion resistances of different high entropy alloys using a range of electrochemical techniques.
  • Analyses of high entropy alloys employing SEM and XPS.
  • Supervision of PhD students.

Requirements:

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD in chemistry or a corresponding field.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Significant experience of electrochemical methods.
  • Significant experience of electrochemical characterisation of high entropy alloys.
  • Significant experience of analyses of high entropy alloys using SEM and XPS.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Additional requirements: Experience of teaching electrochemistry and corrosion.

Salary: Individual pay.

Starting date: 2020-09-01 or according to agreement.

Type of employment: Temporary part-time position (100%) ending 2020-12-31.

Scope of employment: 100 %
