The Department of  Earth Sciences offers education and research with a unique scope and in international evaluations is considered to be one of Europe's most complete earth science institutions. The Department’s scope is represented by experienced teachers and researchers with expertise covering everything from rocks and volcanoes to earthquakes, weather, wind power and climate, from the beginning of life to dinosaurs, and from lakes to glaciers, carbon dioxide storage and sustainable energy systems. Today we are about 230 employees from more than 30 countries.

The Swedish National Seismic Network, SNSN, operates 65 broad-band seismic stations distributed over the length of the country. Local, regional and teleseismic earthquakes are routinely recorded, analyzed and archived. In addition to the daily operation of the network, the SNSN provides information service to support society when natural disasters occur, mostly earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. This service is provided to government agencies, media, the general public and businesses as well as international collaborators. A significant part of the work within the SNSN involves development of methods of data analyses, maintenance in the field, international data exchange and collaboration with other seismological networks in Europe and other parts of the world.

Duties: Participate in the daily operations and routine analysis at SNSN and in projects which have a component of analysis of data from SNSN. Maintenance of seismic stations and instruments. 

Requirements: University degree in seismology, geophysics or physics. Experience of earthquake data analysis. Familiarity with UNIX/Linux systems. Proficiency in spoken and written English .

Additional qualifications: The candidate should be well structured in terms of work planning, be able to take initiatives and to work independently. We emphasize communication skills and the ability to work in a group.

Salary: According to individual qualifications.

Starting date: 2020-06-15, or after mutual agreement.

Type of employment: Temporary position for 3 months.
