Research assistant, Department of Peace and Conflict Research - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se

For the department and for the projects "Peaceful solution of Jihadist conflicts?" and "Battles without Bullets", we are now looking for a resaearch assistant for a temporary employment of 12 months, at 100%, starting 1 June or as otherwise agreed.

Tasks: The research assistant will work in the project "Peaceful solution of Jihadist conflicts?" (50%), as well as on the project "Battles without Bullets" (50%), both with project manager Isak Svensson. The most important task as a research assistant in this project is to contribute empirical data for analysis of conflict resolution outcomes (mediation, peace agreements, political solutions etc). It also includes the task of coding data in relation to non-violent protests within the framework of organized violent conflicts. The research assistant assists the project manager, coordinates the different parts of the two projects and works with project administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in peace and conflict research (or equivalent). 
• Excellent skills in English, both speech and writing.
• Skills in Excel and STATA (or equivalent) is also needed.

Merit

• Studies at master level within peace and conflict.
• Previous experience as a research assistant.
• We will also look at personal suitability and administrative experience.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 1 June 2020, or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position ending 31 May 2021.
