The Department of Informatics and Media has a broad research profile, focusing on current research topics and societal challenges, among other, information systems, interaction design and media and communication. The Department of Informatics and Media offers Bachelor and Master programmes and courses within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The department turnover is approx. 80 million SEK. The department has about 100 employees.

The research in Information Systems at Uppsala University is devoted to the scientific study of the use and development of IT based information systems, including the interaction between systems, developers, users, business, and society.

Duties: The position includes teaching, examination, administration and research in Information Systems. Included within the area of teaching is planning and execution of courses, including course responsibility, course administration, course development and supervision. The focus of the position is business and IT development, including systems development, digitalization, information security and research methods in information systems. The holder of the lectureship is expected to take responsibility for courses in these fields, but additional subjects may also be included. The duties include responsibility for courses, course development and administrative work at the department.

The employee is expected actively to search for external research funding and to follow the developments within the subject area and the developments in wider community that are significant for the work at the university.

Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as senior lecturer, the applicant must hold a Ph.D. or possess equivalent scholarly competence. Further on, the applicant must have demonstrated teaching expertise and a general eligibility requirement is that the applicant must have the personal characteristics required to perform the duties of the post well.

It is required that the educational skill, the scientific competence, and the professional skills of the applicant are relevant to the subject content and the tasks included in the employment.

Documented ability to teach in Swedish and English is a requirement.

Assessment: Equal importance will be given to teaching and research skills in the assessment of applicants.

Pedagogic proficiency will be assessed as carefully as scientific proficiency. Pedagogical skills should be well documented so that the quality can be assessed. A broad teaching experience in information systems or equivalent is important for this position and will be given great weight. Particular emphasis will be placed on documented experiences in the given field of study as described in duties. Experience of teaching research methods within the field of information systems as well as experience of supervision and examination of bachelor-, master- and doctoral theses within the subject is particularly meritorious.

In assessing teaching expertise teaching quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, will be afforded consideration. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching and instruction, as well as the ability to connect research to teaching in respect to research in the subject at hand, subject didactics, as well as teaching and learning in higher education. The ability to interact concerning issues of teaching and learning in higher education with actors inside and outside the University is also included in teaching expertise.

In assessing research expertise research quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, will also be afforded consideration. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education at the postgraduate level, the ability to acquire funding for research in competition, as well as the demonstrated capacity to interact with others both within academia and in the wider community.

Assessment, other skills: Administrative and management skills are important for this position and will be afforded great weight.

Administrative expertise is demonstrated, for example, through the capacity to plan, organize, and prioritize work in an efficient and task-related manner as well as through the ability to assign and observe time frames. Expertise includes overall operational planning and the capacity to manage resources in a way that reflects operational priorities as well as the ability to work in a structured manner based on an awareness of goals and quality.

Management skills are demonstrated through the capacity to lead operations and personnel, make decisions, take responsibility, and motivate others, providing them with what is needed for the efficient achievement of common goals. The abilities to coordinate the group and help create a sense of involvement, participation, and enjoyment in work and to deal with conflicts constitute further examples of demonstrated expertise. 

Personal circumstances that may be of relevance in merit evaluation, for example parental leave, should be mentioned in the list of qualifications (CV).

When the University appoints new teachers those applicants must be selected who, following a qualitative holistic assessment of their competence and expertise, is judged to have the best potential to carry out and develop the relevant duties and to help advance operations.
