The Department of Peace and Conflict Research seeks to hire a part-time (30%) research assistant for twelve months to work as Coordinator of the Uppsala Rotary Peace Center (URPC). Since 2011, the Department hosts one of the seven Rotary International Peace Centers, selecting and educating Rotary Peace Fellows to have a significant, positive impact on peace and conflict resolution through their future careers, see (https://pcr.uu.se/education/uppsala-rotary-peace-center/). The selected research assistant will work as part of a small team, performing a range of administrative tasks to contribute to the center’s daily operations.

Duties: The recruited team-member will support the URPC Director with administrative tasks including, but not limited to: plan and coordinate center activities involving diverse stakeholders; provide logistical support in connection with various visits, meetings and events (e.g. academic workshops or Rotary-events in Sweden or internationally); design information and advertising materials (e.g. newsletter, brochures, roll-ups); maintain the center email; undertake marketing efforts by collecting and processing information for web-presence (e.g. Facebook, website, blog); draft manuals and presentation materials; administer routines for follow-up and contact with alumni. The selected applicant will also represent the URPC in different contexts, provide miscellaneous writing support and serve as primary point of contact with Uppsala Rotary Peace Fellows.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Peace and Conflict studies or a related field.
  • Excellent proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking).
  • Basic social media and computer software skills, including with Excel.
  • Attention to detail and exactness, analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to work to meet deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently, as well as closely in a team, including the ability to establish and maintain networks of contacts.

Additional qualifications:

  • Studies at advanced level (Master level) in Peace and Conflict studies.
  • Prior working experience in peace and conflict related organization, e.g. as a research assistant and/or with office management.
  • Copy-editing experience (English).
  • Experience working in InDesign or equivalent, and with data visualization.
  • Professional experience in communication, outreach and/or with social media, comfortable public speaker.
  • Knowledge of/experience with Rotary's peace fellowship program.
  • Knowledge of basic Swedish.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 15 June 2020, or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position ending 15 June 2021 (12 months).

Scope of employment: 30 %. Scope might be increased if needs arise.
