Uppsala University, Department of Pharmacy

The Uppsala University Drug Optimization and Pharmaceutical Profiling Platform (UDOPP) is located at the Department of Pharmacy, Uppsala University. The primary aim of UDOPP is to perform in vitro ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion) investigations of hit collections and compound series during lead optimization in collaboration with academic research groups primarily in Sweden. The platform performs also preclinical characterization of lead and candidate drug compounds and bioanalytical services. The platform was formed in 2009 and is supported by a research group performing cutting edge research in the ADME and drug delivery field.

UDOPP participates in two Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) projects: 1) the Conception consortium, 2) New Drugs for Bad Bugs (ND4BB) program, European Gram Negative Antibacterial Engine (ENABLE) consortium. UDOPP as ADME of therapeutics facility is also a part of the SciLifeLab Drug Discovery and Development Platform (SciLifeLab DDD). For more information, please visit the following respective homepages at: https://www.imi-conception.eu/, and http://nd4bb-enable.eu/, and http://farmaci.uu.se/research/drugdelivery/udoppeng/

The Conception consortium includes partners from academia and private pharmaceutical companies, which creates a European network in order to generate and disseminate evidence-based information regarding effects of medications used during pregnancy and breastfeeding to women and their healthcare providers. The project was launched in April 2019. The UDOPP team is responsible for: 1) set up validated to regulatory requirements analytical methods, 2) bioanalysis of human plasma and breast milk samples collected during the demonstration studies, 3) population pharmacokinetics (popPK) modelling.

We are now recruiting a highly motivated and flexible bioanalytical scientist to expand our capacity. The position will be located at the Uppsala University Drug Optimization and Pharmaceutical Profiling Platform (UDOPP), Department of Pharmacy. Further information about the department and the research groups can be found at www.farmfak.uu.se/farm/.

Purpose of the position is to provide scientific, bioanalytical knowledge, expertise and experimental work to the demonstration studies within the IMI, Conception consortium. The major objective is to set up, validate and perform bioanalysis of human plasma and breast milk samples collected during the demonstration studies for small and biopharmaceutical drug molecules. The results and best practice will be reported in form of reports and standard operating procedure (SOP) documents.

Duties: The selected candidate will be responsible for:

Setting up and validate the analytical assays according to regulatory authorities’ standards and guidance.

Sample preparation and quantitative analysis of in vivo human plasma and breast milk samples of small molecule compounds using LC-MS/MS technique.

Sample preparation and quantitative analysis of in vivo human plasma and breast milk samples of biologic drug using LC-MS/MS and LBA techniques.

Summarize and report the results in collaboration with academic and industry members of the Conception consortium.

Development, evaluation and implementation of new technologies with focus on expanding the existing LC-HRMS (liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry, nanoLC/UPLC Q Exative HF Orbitrap) capacity.

Share analytical knowledge and expertise with other members of the UDOPP team and the IMI/Conception consortium.

Requirements: A PhD in analytical chemistry or pharmacy with a specific focus on analysis of in vivo samples using LC-MS/MS technique. In-depth knowledge and practical experience working with LC-MS such as e.g. common triple quadrupole system and Q-Exactive HF Orbitrap (Thermo Scientific) equipped with nano/micro LC, are a must.

Additional, hands-on experience with analytical software X-calibur and TraceFinder, Analyst, MassLynx, analytical sample preparation and reporting of the analysis in biological matrices are crucial.

Additional qualifications: Knowledge, understanding and experience with bioanalytical method validation according to regulatory authorities’ expectations are beneficial. Experience with proteomics, metabolomics, biomarker and human plasma analysis is an advantage. The successful candidate should also be flexible and highly motivated, have good problem solving and time management skills, and have the capacity to work with tight deadlines. Good interpersonal and cooperation skill and ability to represent UDOPP in interdisciplinary and international teams are essential.
