Uppsala universitet, institutionen för immunologi, genetik och patologi.

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University (www.igp.uu.se) has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 420 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 345 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 700 affiliated people.

Duties/Project description: We are seeking a postdoc for bioinformatic large-scale data-integration in a cross-disciplinary team focused on brain tumor systems biology. This role involves: (1) integrative network analyses of single cell-data from targeted interventions in a unique biobank of patient-derived cell cultures (2) studies of associations between cellular morphological perturbations (with the help of image analysis, known as Cell Painting) and changes in gene measured by drugSEQ). The project aims at a leading contribution towards improved therapies against brain cancer and offers training state-of-the-art cancer systems biology, involving a tight interaction between experimental and computational researchers. In addition to the above research, the role involves participation in collaborations with external partners in Sweden and in Great Britain. The position is within a consortium supported by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) with excellent resources and facilities. The position will entail responsibilities in terms of several academic tasks, including authoring papers, presenting results, participation in seminars and conferences, writing proposals and reporting to funding organisations.

Requirements: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in biomedicine, biotechnology, computational systems biology, AI/machine learning or similar field. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
-Doctoral degree in a relevant area, e.g. biomedicine, biotechnology, computational systems biology or similar field.
-Documented advanced experience of programming, preferably in commonly used languages in the field (R, Matlab, Python).
-Documented advanced experience of genomics analyses, analyses of imaging data, or other types of ‘data science’.
-Documented ability to interpret, visualise and develop findings from complex data sets.
-Documented ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams that bridge molecular biology, cell biology or experimental research and bioinformatics.
-Documented proficiency in oral and written English communication.

Additional qualifications:
-Strong interest in academic research
-Documented experience of cancer research, computational systems biology or genomics
-Documented experience of convex optimisation or high dimensional statistics
