Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för kemi - Ångström

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström laboratory conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 230 employees and has a turnover just over 230 million SEK. At the department's seven programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering and civil engineering programs and master's programs. For more information, please visit our website.

The Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory has for many years hosted a research environment focused on the development of materials and their applications within the energy storage area: the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. We develop novel electrode and electrolyte materials, characterise them, evaluate and improve them with respect to battery performance, and study fundamental chemical processes and properties using both experimental and computational techniques. The research is, as such, both fundamental and applied.

Work duties: General responsibilities for keeping the laboratory running for PhD students, post-docs and other researchers. Some maintenance of battery cycling equipment, glove boxes, diffractometers, spectroscopic and photoelectron spectroscopy equipment, thermogravimetric equipment, etc. Use and maintenance of equipment for fabrication of batteries and battery components. Handling of chemicals. Development of safety routines and SOPs. Participating in research projects regarding batteries and materials for batteries. Collaboration with industry, both Swedish and international. Introduction of new coworkers to the laboratory.

Requirements: The applicant should have a PhD in Chemistry or equivalent, with a solid background in the battery research area. Experience of chemical laboratory work and experimental materials characterisation techniques are necessary. As is experience of research on, and testing of, batteries necessary. Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to collaborative skills and ability to work independently, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.

Other merits: Capabilities in Swedish language are valuable, and need to be acquired within two years. Experience of X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is consdiered a merit, as is a background within inorganic synthetic chemistry.

Instructions on how to apply: Applications should include a cover letter stating the reasons why you are interested in the position and in what way the employment corresponds to your qualifications. The application should also contain a CV, degree certificate or equivalent, and other documents you wish to be considered (grade transcripts, contact information for your references, letters of recommendation, etc.).
