Uppsala University, Department of Physics and Astronomy

The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 125 of whom are doctoral students. It offers a broad physics curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students, participation in nationally and internationally leading projects for researchers, and opportunities for partnership with industry and various outreach activities.

Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application: Postdoc position in driven quantum many-body systems of solids. Starting date: June 2020. Research area: Materials Theory.

The Division of Materials Theory is known to have a world-class research environment in solid state theory, including both numerical and analytical models. The research is focused on spectroscopy, electronic structures, magnetism, topological phases of matter, correlated phenomena and green energy solutions.

The postdocs will work in a research environment funded by an ERC synergy grant, with focus on driven quantum many-body systems applied to solids. The postdoc is expected to work in a research team around Prof. O.Eriksson, Uppsala University, Alexander Lichtenstein at Hamburg University and Prof. Mikhail Katsnelson, Nijmegen University. The research involves extensions of multi-configuration electronic structure methods, such as Dynamical Mean Field Theory, for calculations of correlated electronic structures in out-of equilibrium situations. The work involved is both analytical, mathematics as well as numerical.

The applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in Physics, with a good background in solid-state physics and theory in general. The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of the PhD thesis, or equivalent, published articles and other relevant materials, if available. Also, letter(s) of recommendation can be included. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
