Uppsala University, Institute for Housing and Urban Research

The Institute for Housing and Urban Research (IBF) is a multidisciplinary research institute with a focus on housing and urban issues. IBF belongs to the Faculty of Social Sciences at Uppsala University and conducts research directed towards housing, the built environment, and urban issues in a broad sense. The institute employs around 40 people, of which the majority are researchers and PhD students. IBF's goal is to produce important social and behavioral research of the highest international quality within its thematic area. More information about the institute can be found at www.ibf.uu.se.

A strong and strategically important part of the environmental psychology research pursued at IBF involves cooperation with the Department of Psychology and the Linnaean Botanical Gardens within the Linnaean Collaboration in Studies of Nature, Health and Sustainability. This collaborative framework is open for a broad range of topics that concern uses and experiences of parks, botanical gardens, and other urban green spaces as relevant to broad sustainability issues such as public health and pro-environmental behavior in a time of growing urban populations and urban densification.

Duties/Project description: The post-doctoral fellow will work with research on topics of his or her own choice that align with the broad concerns of environmental psychology at IBF. The position also includes 10% of full-time teaching at the Department of Psychology.

Requirements: To qualify for employment as a post-doctoral fellow you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in psychology. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, and duties in labour unions.

Additional qualifications: Expertise in theory and methods within environmental psychology is an important merit, particularly as relevant to research on how the physical environment can influence physical and mental health and/or how human behavior affects the natural environment. The ability to provide teaching support in a clinical psychology program is also a valuable merit.

Application process: A complete application will include an up-to-date CV; copy of PhD degree; a statement of research plans, including an explanation of how they relate to theory and previous research in environmental psychology (max 2000 words); a publication list; contact information for three professional references; and three publications from English-language journals with peer-review.
