Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences

Center of Excellence Endocrine Tumors at Akademiska Sjukhuset and Uppsala University is a network of clinical departments and research groups focused on care and research on rare endocrine tumor diseases. We have international accreditation and has been international leaders in this field since more than 3 decades. Mor information can be found on https://www.akademiska.se/forskning-och-utbildning/centre-of-excellence/endokrina-tumorer/

Duties/Project description: The project will investigate endocrine tumors of the pancreas and adrenals with focus on study of biological characteristics, particularly on the DNA and RNA level. We will investigate material available through the unique tissue collections available at our center by using whole genome DNA sequencing, whole exome sequencing, RNA sequencing as well as array based methylation analysis. We aim to detect tumor specific alterations and to link our findings to clinical characteristics, including patient prognosis and response to therapy. By studying tumor evolution we also aim to describe how these diseases develop from healthy cells and how the disease is shaped over time. The main work of the PhD student is to work with bioinformatics analyses.
