Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. For more information, visit http://www.pcr.uu.se.

The Department and the EU-Project Rethink (project leader Jonathan Hall) in collaboration with the VR-Project the Moral Psychology of Grievances (project leader Magnus Öberg) is now looking to hire a research assistant for three months.

Work assignments: The research assistant shall, based on original historical source materials, study political mass communication in inter-war Germany from a moral psychology perspective, and classify messages by political parties based on Moral Foundations Theory (MFT). Together with the project leader the research assistant shall also author a report describing the results. The role may also entail other administrative tasks.

Qualifications: Applicants must have:

  • A bachelor degree in Peace and Conflict studies, or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of political violence and theories of peace and conflict
  • Independent analytical skills
  • Good knowledge of Moral Foundations Theory (MFT)
  • Previous experience of similar data collection work

The applicant must also be very good in English (both in speech and writing), as well as fluent in German.

Desirable/Merit: Master degree in Peace and Conflict studies. Knowledge of parties and politics in inter-war Germany.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 8 June 2020, or as otherwise agreed.
