The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 125 of whom are doctoral students. It offers a broad physics curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students, participation in nationally and internationally leading projects for researchers, and opportunities for partnership with industry and various outreach activities.

The ATLAS group in the Division of High Energy Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking a PhD student (licentiate) to work on the development of semiconductor detectors and advanced data processing methods for the ATLAS experiment at the LHC accelerator at CERN. Development will take place in close collaboration with the Swedish electronics industry and research groups at CERN. Visits to industry partners and short stays at CERN will be necessary within the service.

The salary follows the standard level for postgraduate research studies at Uppsala university.

Candidates should possess a Master’s degree in physics or in a relevant field of study (240 ECTS with 60 ETCS on advanced level). Good knowledge in subatomic physics, programming and  instrumentation skills are considered key assets, as well as communication skills in the English language. Prior experience in instrumentation for particle physics is meritorious.
