Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit http://www.pcr.uu.se.

The department and the EU-project Rethink (with project leader Jonathan Hall), is now looking for a researcher for a part-time employment starting in April 2020.

Duties: The researcher will participate in the analysis of new experimental data and produce research articles in collaboration with the lead author. Additional duties include managing the submission of an application to the ethics review board and contributing to research applications in the pursuit of future funding. The position may entail teaching at the undergraduate- and/or graduate-levels, as well as administrative tasks, up to 20% of the successful applicant’s work-time.

Requirements

  • PhD degree within peace and conflict
  • The researcher should have a strong knowledge of experimental methods and the quantitative techniques typically employed to analyze experimental data, such as ANOVA and multiple regression analysis
  • The project entails applying theory from the field of evolutionary psychology to the study of cooperation and conflict. A deep understanding and previous engagement with evolutionary psychology is thus a must
  • Fluent in both Swedish and English (verbal and written)
  • Emphasis will also be placed on personal characteristics such as motivation, drive, structure and independence.

Additional qualifications

  • A strong background in and knowledge of experimental economics or experimental psychology is also highly valued.
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying mixture modelling would be an asset.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: 13 April 2020, or as otherwise agreed.
