Uppsala University, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Uppsala University is one of Europe’s most international, interdisciplinary and successful research departments in molecular biosciences.

The position is available within the professor Elf’s lab. We offer a stimulating interdisciplinary environment and you will work with experts in microfluidics, biophysics, image analysis, artificial intelligence, microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology. Our general mission is to assemble the scientific puzzle that describes the central aspects of life at the molecular level. For more information about the research in the Elf group, please visit http://elflab.icm.uu.se/.

Duties: We are looking for an engineer who wants to develop, build and use advanced optical measurement methods to study biophysics and intracellular kinetics with high spatial and temporal resolution. The focus is on the development and implementation of optical techniques, for example the MINFLUX system, to be able to follow individual molecules on the µ-second timescale in three dimensions. You will develop microscopy methods in the rapidly growing field of detection and tracking of individual molecules in living cells and should therefore be familiar with the latest optical technologies in Life Science and the physics behind them. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of the microscopes, and you will support and guide other researchers in the group who use optical technologies in their research.
 [Description of tasks]
