Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström laboratory conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 230 employees and has a turnover just over 230 million SEK. At the department's seven programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering and civil engineering programs and master's programs.

Subject description: The project has components of both synthesis and analysis, and focuses on electrocatalytic processes in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The project combines synthesis of redox-active metal-organic frameworks, and their studies with electrochemical tools. It also involves the development of electrochemical characterization techniques.

Work duties: The work duties involve performing the research in the above-mentioned project. It entails, for example, the preparation of catalytic MOF materials and an investigation of their properties. Other work duties include the analysis of the materials, and theory development to understand and simulate the factors that limit the materials’ performances. The research results are expected to be published in scientific publications. The position also involves some teaching, at most 20 %.

Requirements:
Applicants must have:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Very good knowledge and documented research experience in the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks, preferable as films on electrode surfaces.
  • Very good knowledge in the electrochemical characterization of MOFs, and the capacity to develop the currently used characterization methods further.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to i.e. good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.
