Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 80 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit http://www.pcr.uu.se.

The department is now looking for a researcher for a fulll-time employment for 10 months, starting 1 March 2020.

The projects in which the researcher will work, are the folllwing two;

  • “Encouraging State Respect for Human Rights: A Series of Randomized Experiments” funded by the Swedish Research Council, project leader Kristine Eck. This project examines state repression and citizen responses. 

  • “Ending Atrocities: Third-Party Interventions into Civil Wars” funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (project leader Lisa Hultman). This project examines various forms of international interventions and their impact on violence against civilians.

Duties: Together with the project leaders, the recruited researcher will conduct independent research related to the project themes. The position may entail teaching at the undergraduate- and/or graduate-levels, up to 20% of the successful applicant’s work-time. The researcher may also be tasked with minor administrative tasks within the projects.

Requirements:

  • At the time of application, the successful candidate should have a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies.
  • Documented experience working with advanced quantitative methods, including the statistical program R and designing and conducting survey experiments.
  • Documented research merits related to the project topics, especially state repression, violence against civilians, and resistance.
  • Good ability to work cooperatively.
  • Advanced proficiency in written English.


Additional qualifications: Peer-reviewed publications related to the project themes.
